
Amec Spie were contracted by Railtrack to deliver the Design, Implementation and commissioning works associated with the fitment of a new safety system called TPWS (Train Protection and Warning System).
Our role was to provide a programme management facility to report to the Senior Project Management Team on the progress in general and against our original agreed programme of works.
Original project was the construction of a rail link from Paddington Station to Heathrow Airport (Terminals 1-4). This included the construction of running tunnels, platforms and concourse tunnels with associated lift vent and escalator shafts for the rail link from Great western main line at Hayes to connect all terminals at Heathrow. Original Contract Value was £66m but this increased to £150m+ following the 1994 tunnel collapse.

Virgin Trains constructed an Engineering Team as a one stop shop for both staff and external companies for anything relating to engineering works as a result of the upgrade works on the West Coast Mainline.

Feasibility Level through to Implementation of works. Southern Zone was divided in to various sections: Asset Renewals Group which consisted of: Track Renewals, Telecommunications and Electrification facilities.
